Heartgard for Cats is a chewable tablet which is very useful to prevent heartworm disease. Not only it prevents heartworm disease but it also kills intestinal worms, ascarid and hookworm’s infection and pinworms. Directions

Heartgard is given once in a month all the year around or is administered one month after the mosquito season. Heartgard is available in both flavored and unflavored tablets which can be given to your cat. One thing should be remembered that it should not be swallowed as a whole. So to it is advisable to break it down into small pieces and then given to cats. The normal dosage depends on the weight:
For cats weighing less than 5 pounds – 55 mcg
For cats weighing between 6-15 pounds – 165 mcg

Side Effects

Though Heartgard has no major side effects but if the dose is exceeded then it can lead to dilated pupils, tremors, loss of appetite, loss of body weight, distortion. In rarest of rare cases it can also lead to death.

    The area I live in is prone to having heartworm infections ffor somereason. I’ve had my cat on heartgard for years now, and it works great. My cat has no problem eating it. She treats it like candy.
